The Barleywine (barley wine) style is a strong beer style, rich in malt and full flavours. Rich in body, with a hint of alcohol and a nice fruity or hoppy interest. When aged, it can take on Port-like flavors. Very rich and strong malt aroma, often with a caramel aroma in darker versions or a slight toffee character in paler ones. Aged versions may have a hint of sherry. The color can range from deep gold to very dark amber, or even dark brown. Strong, intense, complex malt flavors. Moderate to high malty sweetness on the palate, although the finish can be moderately sweet to moderately dry (depending on age).
