Brown Ales are a style of English ales with a dark amber to dark reddish-brown color, off-white to light-to-moderate tan head. Aroma Light and malty sweet with notes of toffee, nutty or light chocolate. A light but attractive floral or earthy hop aroma may also be noted. A slight fruity aroma may be evident, but should not predominate. Light to moderate malt sweetness, with a light to thick caramel character and a medium to dry finish. The malt can also have a nutty, toasty, biscuit, caramel, or light chocolate character. Medium to medium-low bitterness. Medium-light to medium body. This style can vary between: Dark Mild, American Brown Ale and Historical Beer (London Brown Ale).
