What are organic beers?
Organic beers are those that go through a "natural" fermentation process, that is, that has no chemical intervention, maintaining sustainable production. In addition, all its ingredients are of organic origin and free from residues of artificial fertilizers: natural ingredients from environmentally friendly crops.
Organic beers need certification and regulations to demonstrate that the process steps follow the principles of sustainability. In the European Community we have the Euroleaf, the European Food Seal for BIO, ECO, Ecological or Organic food and diet products that requires compliance with European regulations on the matter: European Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 and its applicable regulations (CE) No. 889/2008, (CE) No. 1235/2008 and (CE) No. 125/2013.
Here in Spain, certification is the responsibility of the Autonomous Communities, in accordance with the respective agricultural advice that must be complied with. The stamps of these regions are issued by private or semi-private companies (Committees and Councils for organic production and work), grouped in Intereco, a non-profit association.
