January brings us a selection for the Spain Beer Subscription from one of the most emblematic and well-known regions of Spain for being the land of figures such as Don Quixote from Cervantes, Almodóvar, Sara Montiel or Iniesta. But, in addition to that, it has great contributions to Spanish gastronomy such as Manchego gazpachos, atascaburras, ratatouille, Castilian soup, its delicious Manchego cheeses or also its desserts and sweets such as marzipan, miguelitos, pestiños, etc. .
As if that weren't enough, the region has some of the oldest and pioneering craft breweries in Spain (with great international projection), and others of more recent creation that are coming on strong. Both of these and others, we have made a selection of 8 different beers that will make you feel like one more Manchego and start dancing a jota!
The Brute
“We love what we do, and it shows”. What started as a hobby, brewing beer with a small kit to make beer, has brought together two friends to create the La Bruta craft brewery, which is officially 1 year old, but in total brings together more than 5 years of experience. La Bruta is a project created at the end of 2020 in Toledo (in the midst of a pandemic) by the two young men Alberto Hernández and Ignacio López, who have been producing around 3,000 liters since December 2020, with an average of 600/700 liters per month. Their beers represent the tradition and passion of brewing beer in Castilla-La Mancha, in addition to reinforcing the local culture on their beer labels, with images of different parts of Toledo in the background and circus motifs, the work of a local illustrator and graphic designer. .
From Cervecera La Bruta we have brought their Premium Blond Ale and their Double IPA, two different references that represent the best of the Belgian and American brewing school:
- Premium Blond Ale: top fermentation beer with slightly hoppy character due to Dry Hopping well balanced with malts, color Medium bodied golden blonde with a slightly bitter mouthfeel with hints of fruit and herbs.
- Double IPA: top fermentation beer, balanced caramel malts, extra hoppy and high bitterness. Roast brown in color, with a medium-high body and a bitter and hoppy mouthfeel with herbal, resinous hints of caramel and liquorice.
Dawat
Technique, innovation and creativity, these are the 3 words that very well define the constant evolution of the Dawat brewery. From Cuenca to the world, the brewery was founded by Javier Donate in 2009 out of pure passion for beer since, in reality, he is an optometrist by training and until he launched himself into the world of hops he was exclusively dedicated to optics. Dawat presents us with 100% isobaric beers, which allows their beers to maintain their natural carbonation from start to finish, which is why the gas in their beers is less heavy. In addition, they are 100% natural, without additives or preservatives, with the widest range of raw materials to achieve the best and most varied recipes, always with the contribution of the personality of Cuenca water.
From Dawat we have chosen two beers, their recently launched Bourbon Oak Strong Ale and the Dawat 7 Maibock Lager:
- Bourbon Oak Strong Ale: special elaboration of Dawat, vintage style, copper-colored beer, coaba, on the palate there are touches of wood, vanilla and nuts. High body, malty and dried fruit.
- Dawat 7 Maibock Lager: Maibock style beer, variation of the Bocks.Light blonde/gold color, low body: Malt flavor, sweet and slight hopped aftertaste. Predominantly malty and herbaceous aroma.
Monkey Beer
“Tradition and technology”. The Monkey Beer Brewery was created by the brothers Roberto and Raul, who have been applying their technical knowledge of the craft brewing world and their science to create machinery adapted to the needs of their factory since long ago. This production system helps to follow the traditional production process, but with much more modern machinery, taking into account the variables of the unique creation environment. Unifying the concepts of craftsmanship and technology allows the Monkey Beer brewery to respect the time that beer in its natural condition requires to be created.
For the selection of the month we have chosen their Banana Weissbier and Black Mamba Stout, two very authentic styles of the German and English brewing schools:
- Banana Weissbier: Traditional German wheat beer with a suggestive spicy aroma with notes that evoke bananas (typical of the style). Its flavor is nuanced with the incorporation of hops, rounded off with malt, which gives it a different freshness that invites you to repeat.
- Mamba Negra Stout: an aromatic and intense black beer, with roasted and roasted flavors combined with sweet notes and a full and creamy body, 100% natural , without preservatives or dyes and has oats in its ingredients.
Domus
“A success story based on an authentic passion for brewing”. Cervezas Domus is one of the pioneering Spanish craft breweries in Spain, founded in Toledo in 2007 by the master brewer Fernando Campoy, it marketed its first beer in 2008: Domus Regia, one of the first Pale Ale on the national market. Fernando, a biochemist by training and a mathematics teacher, says that it was while preparing for some oppositions that he fell into the magic of the world of beer. Present in most provincial capitals, it has been expanding its radius of action throughout the national territory. Internationally, Domus has successfully entered the demanding Italian and Asian markets, as well as having a presence in the best restaurants in New York.
For the selection of the month we have chosen their Santo Tomé Dubbel and their Summa Scotch Honey Ale:
- Santo Tomé Dubbel: Abbey beer, with the characteristic profiles of a Belgian Dubbel, but with a special softness and lightness that invites to repeat. With a reddish amber color and creamy and persistent foam, the nose is dominated by floral touches typical of Belgian yeast, with a soft cherry hue. On the palate it is medium bodied and soft carbonation, with a sweet aftertaste of caramelized malts.
- Summa Scotch Honey Ale: with 4 types of malt and honey; Dark burgundy-brown color. Consistent beige foam. Very aromatic beer, with hints of honey and caramel along with fruit from fermentation. Medium-bodied and easy on the palate, it is complex in taste, combining the bitter character of roasted malt and hops with the sweetness of honey, with a subtle hint of coffee and chocolate appearing.
