Do you love anime and are you starting out in the world of craft beer ? Or on the contrary, do you love to enjoy a good beer and every day you are more hooked on Japanese animation?
In any case, today we want to unite these two exciting worlds, which have so many followers. For them we are going to talk about 5 essential anime series. And since each series has its particularities, it is not worth watching them while you drink any beer.
For this reason, we have investigated to find THE ideal BEER for each one. Prepared? Let's start!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009)
In this anime, after trying to revive their mother (and losing a lot in the attempt), two brothers undertake the risky mission of finding the philosopher's stone. The series takes place in a universe inspired by Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, where alchemy exists, which is key to the development of the story.
And to watch this series we have the perfect beer: Bacterio Brewing 4 Brothers Belgian Quadrupel 33cl. First, undoubtedly, by the name: Brothers, which is a tribute to one of the distinctive characteristics of this series, the brotherhood. But also the vintage design of the bottle of this beer takes us directly to the beginning of the century, when beers were distributed in containers of this style. This beer is a Belgian Quadrupel, a powerful, elegant blonde with a lot of personality.
Death Note (2006)
Adaptation of the manga that began in 2003 and one of the best-known anime for those less familiar with the animation genre.
In the series we will follow a model student who finds a blank notebook with the word DEATHNOTE (notebook of death) written on the cover. And the surprise comes when he discovers if he writes someone's name in that notebook... that person will die.
And what better beer to watch this anime (which is also not very long) than invoking Lord of the Land of the Dead Mictlantecuhtli. This God of the Dead is brought to us by La Grua brewery, from the darkest and deepest jungles. With Mictlán DDH The powerful Aztec god of death returns from the afterlife to possess us with this incredible Neipa , product of the combination of tropical fruits such as mango, passion fruit, pineapple and lime. But beware! It has an alcohol content of 6%, so... Be careful what you write in your notebooks!
Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch (2006)
The plot takes place in a Japan conquered by the Britannian empire, in which the Japanese have lost their freedom and rights. The exiled prince Lelouch comes into contact with the Geass, a supernatural power that will help him free his nation and build a new world.
The plot has a lot of political strategy, and above all, it has inspired many others.
With constant references to Japan and its culture, we believe that the perfect beers for this series created by the animation studio Sunrise are all the recipes with Japanese references. For example, Nicotto , a Japanese Style Beer made with Sorachi, a hop of Japanese origin, jasmine green tea, tangerine peel and yuzu. Also perfect is the Japan Weekend Kabukicho , a sake-flavored Golden Ale.
Stein's; Gate (2011)
Based on a visual novel for Xbox 360, this series ranks as one of the great examples of science fiction anime.
Stein's; Gate tells us the story of a scientist who, after several failed attempts, manages to send a banana back in time using a microwave. He will soon discover, along with his curious laboratory companions, that he can use a microwave and a mobile phone to send messages to the past, thus developing a whole plot of trips and parallel time lines.
And which beers are perfect for this anime? Winking at one of the key points of the series, we are going to propose craft beers where the banana is very important. And it is that the protagonist discovers that he can send objects to the past... with a banana!
Quickly, we thought of beers with flavors of this fruit, but also with fun cans where the banana was the protagonist, like this lightly toasted wheat recipe, the Guineu Blatdesac Weissbier . But we also love Weissbier Trigonometric Bacterium , with a mad scientist on the label!
one piece
Of course, One Piece could not be missing, one of the greatest animes in history and certainly one of the most popular franchises of the last decades.
It originated from a 1997 manga, and today it has more than 1,000 chapters and 14 movies, special episodes, and short films. In addition to having a huge community of fans, it has a very characteristic animation style, which allows you to differentiate it among thousands.
Summarizing the plot is complicated, but it can be said that the series narrates the adventures of a crew of pirates in search of a treasure: One Piece.
The first thing we think of is that there is a brewery that totally fits the theme: Caleya. What began as a group of friends who began to study film and between one beer and another realized that their future was to brew beer. Be sure to try their Caleya Skater Cold IPA , a dry and bitter beer representative of this little-known style among IPAs, and their Caleya Mayon Syrup Imperial Pastry Stout with cocoa and tonka bean , with 10% alcohol and lots of flavor.
Bonus track - Dragon Ball Special
Created by Toei Animation, it has probably been the most important anime series in history, which made anime popular and internationally known. We can say without a doubt that in Spain he marked an entire generation.
Dragon Ball has been so important in the lives of many that the brewery La Quince has created a whole Limited Edition as a tribute. We leave you here some of the beers that make it up, all of them with illustrations by Antonio Bravo.
- Crow Disciples Traditional , a Gose of a lifetime, And what better than Tenshinhan, mythical character from Dragon Ball and his inseparable companion Chaos, to illustrate this classic German style.
- Onda Vital DDH IPA , modern and with moderate bitterness. Illustrated with the most mythical version of Goku.
- Beer House , a Belgian Tripel tribute with tribute to Kaio Sama and Alin.
- Solar Fist , a Session IPa dedicated to the character of Krillin.
- Magic Tempel Red , a Red India Pale Lager dedicated to the least red and most green of the characters
- Space Warrior dedicated to Vegeta, the main antagonist of the saga. And for Son Goku's main enemy they have created a highly hopped Modern West Coast IPA
- Biodroid , a Double IPa with the well-hopped villain Cell.
- And we finish with the beer dedicated to Master Muten Roshi. We are sure that you would love to drink this beer: an American IP A with citrus aromas.
Will eight beers give you enough for a Dragon Ball marathon?
So far a very small selection of anime series that we think you should know. And of craft beers that we believe should be drunk. Do you dare?
