Fall beers are not a style, but they are seasonal beers. This is a category of beers made especially for the season following a certain profile. In general, they are beers that suggest a more temperate climate, related to the autumn harvest. For that reason they can include pumpkin and/or seasonal spices.
For brewing, breweries choose a “base” style of beer. From this style they make the elaboration of the "autumn beers" adding the typical ingredients of the season. The styles used as a base are the most malty, such as Amber Ale, Brown Ale, etc. The mixture of these styles with spices and seasonal fruits balances very well. Meanwhile, we know that the world of beer is very creative and can always surprise us.
Fall Beer Profile:
How can we define these beers in an easy and accessible way? Well, these beers are generally spicy, amber in color that often have a moderately rich body. For this reason, this beer profile suggests a good accompaniment for fall temperatures. Its aromas have a wide range of possibilities, although on many occasions they remind us of pumpkin pie smells or similar vintage dishes.
Regarding the taste in the mouth, there are many possible interpretations. First, its body is generally medium to full, and some malt-based chewiness is often present. There is also a typical moderate to high carbonation, which adds texture. Many examples will display a warm, well-aged alcohol content, but without being too intense.
Overall balance is the key to presenting a well-crafted fall seasonal beer.
